Minor Feelings
2026, Curator of exhibition
What does it mean to grow up between different cultures? Who decides where and with whom you
belong? And how do you shape an identity when parts of your history are missing, fading, or filled in by others?
This exhibition is inspired by Cathy Park Hong’s publication ‘Minor Feelings, a reckoning on race and the Asian condition’, and explores the undercurrent of emotions that arise from everyday experiences with racism, stereotyping, and cultural alienation. These feelings are not ‘minor’ because they are insignificant, but because they emerge from a minority position and are often dismissed or overlooked. The selected works of Đăng-Vũ Đặng, Honey Birch, Linhuei Chen, and An Ye Zhi de Jong, explore the Asian diasporic, migrant, and adoptee identities. Inviting visitors to reflect on the ways in which identity is shaped, lost,
and reclaimed. The exhibition creates space for Asian identities as a source of reflection, recognition, and pride.
In collaboration with VHDG the exhibition will be on view H47 in Leeuwarden from the 28th of August until the 26th of September. Alongside this exhibition there is a public program inlcuding a dance performance by Yulia van Leeuwen and Iris Bergh (26/8), a cooking performance by Đăng-Vũ Đặng (12/9) and
a
reading by Yeji Streppel (26/9).
