About An Ye Zhi de Jong (安叶芝 de Jong)
An Ye Zhi de Jong (Fenyi, 2001) is a Chinese born artist who grew up and lives in the Netherlands. In her work she explores the realities of growing up as a transracial Asian adoptee in a predominantly white environment. She questions the ethics of intercountry adoption and disputes the colonial motives and assumptions. Motives that were being broadly promoted in the past, and still frame the perspective on adoption today. With her work she also delves into the complex relation to her roots, race and the loss of her heritage, floating in the space between her homeland and her birth country. An Ye Zhi is an interdisciplinary artist who often works with sculpture and installations, her works offer reflections on the complexity of racial identity, origin and belonging.
