Statement

An Ye Zhi is a Chinese-born artist who grew up in the Netherlands. Born during the one-child policy, she explores the intricate realities of growing up as a transracial adoptee. Her works stand as testaments to the trauma endured and lives lost by all the children that were abandoned during the policy.  With her work she also delves into the complexity of her Chinese roots. Taken from her homeland at a young age, her works offer reflections on the complexity of racial identity, origin and belonging.  Through imaginative sculptures and installations, and the use of mixed media, An Ye Zhi reveals pieces of her narrative.
